About

About IEFNZ

The Intercultural Exchange Foundation of New Zealand (IEFNZ) was established in 2017 and is a not-for-profit organisation registered with the New Zealand Government. We plan intercultural exchange activities and provide useful information so that students and migrants from Japan can live safe and fulfilling lives in New Zealand.

Our starting point is that the people who come from Japan are at the centre of everything we do. Working with students, education providers, businesses and local government, we create opportunities for volunteering and intercultural exchange in New Zealand.

Purpose

Principles and purposes

Our purposes

  1. To develop an understanding and appreciation of Japanese cultural heritage through participating in or hosting community-friendly events.
  2. To offer assistance to Japanese students and immigrants to New Zealand by providing local information to help them settle smoothly.
  3. To provide preventative safety information for vulnerable younger homestay students, and take any other necessary safety measures to prevent them becoming victims of crime.
  4. To carry out such other charitable purposes within New Zealand as the Trustees determine.

Our activities are limited to Aotearoa New Zealand. Any income, benefit or advantage is applied to the charitable purposes of the Trust.

Activities

What we do

01

Volunteering

We support student-led volunteer activities in partnership with local education providers, businesses and councils, so students can build independence and learn the value of service.

02

Sport

We create chances to meet many different people through sport, helping young people develop an international outlook.

03

Culture and nature

Through experiencing New Zealand's culture and natural environment, participants learn about other cultures and why conservation matters.

04

Homestays and farmstays

Living with local families lets participants experience everyday customs and culture first-hand.

05

Sharing Japanese culture

We create intercultural events that showcase Japanese culture to New Zealanders and to migrants from many countries.

06

Other activities

Any other activities needed to keep Japanese students safe while they live in New Zealand.
